The is a new concept initiative of Cherry Crowden and Michael Kohla, an Anglo-Austrian duo who worked together for ten years as vice presidents of marketing for Swarovski, the world’s largest crystal company, before forming their own consultancy, Crowden & Partner Consulting, in Switzerland. Partners in life and work, the one’s creative talent is matched by the other’s strong organizational and administrative skills. They share the same outward-directed philosophy with a desire to remain open and alert to changes, determined not to become complacent.
In 2002, they travelled to South Africa searching for fresh ideas and new directions in consumption habits, lifestyles and attitudes. They were motivated by what they saw and experienced and returned in 2003 with the purpose of establishing a branch of Crowden & Partner Consulting and making a second home in Cape Town. Within a few months they registered Crowden & Kohla Concepts (Pty) Ltd, and purchased a private house in Camps Bay.
They quickly converted the property into a chic bed and breakfast establishment and opened their doors to guests in October 2003. They offer a non-traditional and open approach to the hospitality business just when the trend is away from sameness towards individuality and personal expression. Sundowner is an ideal setting for an exclusive, home-away-from-home experience for overseas visitors, especially German-speaking holiday tourists from Europe.
